Blog Traffic is a critical part of blogging. In an earlier post, “Sail the 7 Cs of Blogging”, I gave an overview of seven different aspects of blogging.
In a series of seven posts (it started as four and kinda grew :), I am focusing on the last one – driving traffic to your blog. I’m starting at the back because I feel that this CRITICAL step is often overlooked. (We all tend to skimp on the “last” step in order to mark a project as DONE.)
Creating blog traffic has four distinct phases –
- things you do before you start posting in your blog – covered in a post about Phase 1,
- things you do while you are writing a post (SEO and HOC) – covered in a post about Phase 2,
- things you do after you write a post and press Publish Blog Traffic After Publish 1 and
- checking the results on your efforts.This post is part 5 of 7 on blog traffic and continues the coverage of the third phase. Owners of regular websites usually think of this as Off Page SEO. Many bloggers don’t think about it at all
Caveat – there are lots of opinions and lots of research on this topic. I’m giving you the best that I know. Parts of it will probably be out of date before it is even published.

As I researched what the Top MLM Bloggers do to promote traffic to their websites, I ran into a few things that were interesting. I’m sharing those here.
DO FOLLOW Bookmarking sites
The first of my Blog Traffic Notes involves DO FOLLOW bookmarks. You can click on the link below and see several lists of bookmarking sites that DO FOLLOW. Many bookmarking sites automatically add NO FOLLOW to their links and so you get no credit for the backlinks. You may get some direct clicks. I would suggest going through some of these lists and seeing if you can find any that are really targeted toward your niche. At that point it may be worth posting a bookmark link to the sites.

FIND EDU Sites you can comment on
The second of my Blog Traffic Notes involves finding EDU Sites. Do this Google Search:

Here are a couples: Colorado State
http://learning.colostate.edu/login/login_alt.cfm
Create an account and then go to Writing Tools > Blogs (Create a new one)
Arizona State
http://tps.ccit.arizona.edu/wiki/Main_Page
Go to the above link and create an account. Go to User Page or click on your Username Now you can create a page with your article on it and backlinks to your site.
Suggestions for Posting on Edu Sites.
- Add unique articles to these sites. You can add spun content if you like but make sure it is VERY readable
- Make your articles less than 300 words.
- If your article is 300 words, I would only put in 1 backlink to your website. At 500 words you can add a second backlink.
SPY on Your Competitors BIT.LY links
Another of my Blog Traffic Notes is about BIT.LY, the url shortening site.
Add a “+” sign to the end of a bil.ly link and see the traffic to that link. Even if the link is not yours.
Are People Pinning from your Site?
Put this in the address bar of your browser to see pins that originated from your site.:
http://pinterest.com/source/<yourwebsite.com>
For Example: http://pinterest.com/source/mashable.com/
Easily see Page Rank of Sites When You Google
Blog Traffic Notes and Firefox. Use a tool called SEOQuake. It is an addon to Firefox
A Note about Commenting on Blogs for Backlinks
Don’t bother if there are more than 50 comments already. Google stops about there.
