Checking your email stats seems like a natural thing to do, but when was the last time you did it?  I’m suggesting here that you go right now and check your follow-up email stats.  While my writing focuses mostly on AWeber, this list building tip can be applied with any autoresponder software.  They are ALL going to tell you your open rates.

You might be surprised at what you find! 

I’ve been a social science researcher for many years and one thing I’ve learned is that we just don’t use the Mark One Eyeball enough.  I titled this post “Check Your Follow-up Email Stats” and some people won’t read it since they think I’m talking about running some fancy report or statistical analysis.

Check Your Follow-up Email Stats – Look at the SPAM Scores

In AWeber the SPAM scores are a clickable link.  AWeber says anything with a number less that 5 is okay.  I aim for lower than that – much lower!.  We do NOT want our emails being dropped into our subscribers SPAM bucket.

Check Your Follow-up Email Stats – Look at the OPEN Rates

Remember that open rates are approximate.  They rely on the subscriber having their image display turned on.  Since MANY people read their email using their smart phones and tablets, they often have the image displays turned off. Regardless, take a look to see if one of your emails has a very low open rate.  Since these follow-up emails go out on different days for different subscribers, the main thing that influences the open rate is your subject line.  If you see a very low open rate, change the subject line.

In this case I’ve notes that as soon as I added “Attraction Marketing Newsletter” to the subject line,the open rates tripled.  It doesn’t take fancy statistics to tell me that I should use those words much earlier in my sequence.
